Preserving our heritage, one story at a time.
MILLINOCKET HISTORICAL SOCIETY
LEARN ABOUT OUR EXPANSION
Since 1979, we have been collecting items and stories for display, carefully preserving the history of Millinocket.
We can't wait to share it with you!
We are building 8 rooms of exhibits upstairs! The first project allowed the staff safe access to the second floor to create exhibits.
Phase one is complete. We built a beautiful, safe, code-complaint staircase to replace the old one.
The upstairs is ready and waiting for 8 rooms of history to come to light!
Little Italy, Baxter State Park, Downtown businesses, Stearns High School!
We've been saving stuff for years!
.
THE NEXT STEPS
In Phase Two we will build an addition to our building, launching our efforts to become wheelchair accessible. The addition will house a barrier-free, welcoming entrance. It will also house a second staircase to meet fire regulations and some small storage and display areas. This addition has been funded by a County Commissioner’s grant from ARPA.
Phase Three will allow access throughout the museum for everyone. Beginning with an accessible entry, the addition will allow for a wheelchair lift to reach the second floor and doors that are handicap accessible.
We'll also make the building fire safety complaint by installing a sprinkler system throughout the building.
Phase Four begins in 2025 with an upgrade of our building façade. The front porch needs some repairs to the siding and roof. The back of the building needs new siding, a renovation of the ramp, new signage, and repairs to an entrance to the cellar.
A small outbuilding is in disrepair and needs to be refreshed.
